STRATFORD - A male driver is facing impaired driving charges after attempting to go through an RCMP checkpoint with open liquor in his vehicle here Saturday night.
Queens District and Stratford RCMP were conducting a checkpoint on the Bunbury Road when they observed the open liquor in the lone male driver’s vehicle.
The man was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and taken to the Maypoint Detachment, where he blew readings RCMP said were “well over” the legal limit.
The man was released with a court date schedule for June 2.
RCMP asked that anyone with information on impaired drivers, or any other crime, contact them or P.E.I. Crimestoppers.
“Queens District RCMP will continue to combat impaired driving on Island roads, as it is one of the yearly priorities,” said an RCMP statement. “RCMP would like to take this opportunity to thank the general public for assisting and calling in impaired drivers.”
