SUMMERSIDE — Multinational gourmet coffee powerhouse Starbucks may be looking to expand to the city.

Speculation that Summerside is getting a Starbucks franchise has popped up periodically over the past several years, but it appears the company may be finally ready to set up shop here. A job ad for a Summerside Starbucks manager has surfaced online recently at the company’s website.

In an emailed statement to TC Media, a company spokeswoman said because they don’t have a signed lease, they cannot confirm a franchise is going to open here. However, once a lease is signed, they would make a formal announcement, they said.

Charlottetown currently has three Starbucks locations in the area.

Organizations: Starbucks

Geographic location: Summerside, Charlottetown

Some of these comments are clear ignorance, if you're comparing a $7 "coffee" to Tim Hortons, you're comparing apples to oranges (or drip coffee to a hand crafted beverage). A drip coffee at Starbucks will run you under $2, much like one from Tim Hortons.

How can you people afford to buy a coffee at those places. You know you can buy a large can of coffee for about 7 bucks and make your own. Even grind your own and be farther ahead and put some money in your pocket. What a waste of money these coffee shops are.

How very Summerside, about 15 years behind the trend.

Behind??? No, it took someone 15 years to sucker someone in Summerside into opening one. It is a chain geared toward the airhead and pompous customer. There is something wrong with Summerside if it succeeds there.

March 20, 2014 - 16:12 if getting a coffee shop is "progress". Small time thinking indeed.

Well, nothing says that you will be obligated to buy your coffee there if they open one, LOL
