Funding issues are at the heart of the talks on a new Municipalities Act and discussions on the new piece of legislation are expected to resume in the near future, says Kensington Mayor Gordon Coffin.

"The mayors had a meeting with Minister (Wes) Sheridan about three weeks ago and it was to get the Municipalities Act talks back on the agenda,” the mayor told councillors recently.

“What was agreed to was we agreed to start talking again. It's hard to know where it's going to go or what is happening next."

Coffin said there had been a great deal of work already accomplished on the new legislation before discussions stopped.

“Basically all of the framework was put together,” he said.

"The municipalities all insisted, and rightfully so, that there had to be funding arrangements attached to it."

Good Luck attaching any funding to anything with Wes. He just got approved to borrow another 200 million and he does not talk about that either. Buy Murphy beer so he can pay off his debts.
