GEORGETOWN — A Greenfield marijuana grower found with 10 harvestable plants was sentenced to 90 days in jail in provincial court here recently.

Brian Breau cultivated a small grow op in the Gaspereaux area of eastern P.E.I. last summer and was arrested near the property following a tip to police.

Judge Nancy Orr was told police found sacks inside his vehicle containing small marijuana plants — 10 that were harvestable.

Breau was also given probation of 18 months and 100 hours of community service work.

Well one day we'll all look back on this and laugh, I hope.

Let that be a lesson to you, young feller. Get your pot from organized crime or we'll put you in jail until you smarten up. But only buy "personal use" quantities like 3 or 4 at a time. Sure it costs more, but you don't want organized crime going out of business, do ya?

Prince Edward Island should be the first to stop enforcing this silly law. Not legalize, but simply decriminalize. Cannabis prohibition has to be one of the least logical laws in our system. The solution is simple, decriminalize cannabis and enforce DUI and smoking in public fines. Walking down the street smoking a fatty can make people uncomfortable and that's understandable, but no one should be prosecuted for personal use in their own home. Let's make a stand for change.

Big deal : A frw plant's & he goes to jail where we have to pay to support him . The law is not one bit fair with the annoncement of a major grow up starting in Charlottetown , most likey using a major grant of my money . This sure doesn't look right to me . Rich get richer & poor get screwed by our own goverment .

The persecution of small time people growing their own medication has to end. If this was for his personal use and he was over 21 there should be no jail time, only if he was trying to sell it. Disgraceful but the law will change eventually, not long now. In the meantime another life ruined by jail and a criminal record for a few plants.

People will never be allowed to legally grow their own,Why? There is no money in it for the government. If it becomes legal it will be treated the same as alcohol. You will be able to buy it from government licensed large growers. As stated in the media it will be priced at 12$ a gram compared to 2$ if you grow your own. So if you think some day soon you will be able to grow your own supply, carry it anywhere and smoke it when you want,i would have to say your High.LOL

Slyfox: People now make their own wine and beer. Why not grow their own "medicine"? And BTW - 90% of the people claiming that it's "medicine" are full of nonsense. The medicine they need comes in the form of getting off the sofa and doing something useful.
