SUMMERSIDE — Summerside police are still investigting an assault involving a firearm Saturday evening in the city, and say charges are expected today.
Police responded to a call just before 8 p.m. Saturday on Industrial Crescent off Pope Road where it was reported a man was assaulted with a firearm and a wooden object. A woman was also allegedly assaulted with the same wooden object.
A section of the road was closed for about an hour.
Police are still conducting interviews with witnesses, but did say the firearm involved is believed to have been a paintball gun.
“We anticipate laying charges past tomorrow morning,” Summerside police Deputy Chief Sinclair Walker said Monday.
No shots were fired in the Saturday night incident and there were no serious injuries, though one man was sent to hospital for treatment and was later released.
“He was injured by being hit,” said Walker.
The deputy chief added that those involved are known to each other and he called the incident isolated.
Walker wouldn’t say if alcohol or drugs were involved.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Summerside police at 432-1201 or Crime Stoppers.
