The box on a Superior Sanitation truck shifted as the vehicle was exiting the roundabout at Slemon Park bringing traffic to a halt for nearly 45 minutes, late Friday afternoon.

SUMMERSIDE - Summerside police closed off the Slemon Park roundabout for about 45 minutes earlier today, bringing traffic -- including school buses filled with students going home from school -- to a standstill until the truck could be removed.

Traffic travelling east and west along Route 2 and exiting Slemon Park was halted when the box on a Superior Sanitation truck shifted as the vehicle passed through the roundabout.

The vehicle had nearly cleared the roundabout when the heavy box shifted.

The driver of the vehicle said he felt the weight of the truck shift and thought the truck was going to take out a utility pole near the side of then road. The driver did manage to stop the vehicle before any damage was done.

He said the boxes are locked onto the truck and these may have let go to cause the box to slide sideways.

No one was injured in the incident.

Roundabouts! They don't cause accidents and delays do they. What a waste of taxpayers money for that roundabout.
