A house fire on Route 24 near Caledonia has left a family homeless.
The call came into the Murrary River fire department about 4:15 p.m. Thursday.
When firefighters arrived they found the interior of the home in flames.
The home, a wood-shingle structure set back in a wooded area, had children’s toys and a large swing set in the yard.
It is believed one of the occupants had returned to the home which had been empty at the time the fire started, and made the call for assistance.
The highway between Bellevue through to Calendonia was closed for about three hours as the fire was brought under control. Murray Harbour fire department assisted.
The home was destroyed, said Darren Gormley, deputy fire chief of Murray River department.
Provincial deputy fire marshall Robert Arsenault attended the scene and is carrying out an investigation.
