Charlottetown police have posted a video of a woman obtained by a surveillance camera after a city convenience store was robbed overnight.

A 20-year-old Charlottetown area woman has been charged in connection with an armed robbery early Wednesday at a Needs Convenience store.

Allison Ruth MacKenzie was arrested last night and spent the night at the provincial correctional centre.

She was brought before a justice of the peace Thursday morning where she was also charged with the theft of a television.

The case has been set over until Friday afternoon when MacKenzie will go before another justice of the peace for a show cause hearing.

Show cause hearings are held to determine whether an accused person should be remanded in custody pending trial or released upon agreeing to comply with a set of strict conditions set by the court.

Police reports indicate the robbery with which MacKenzie has been charged occurred shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday.

She is alleged to have entered the store armed with a syringe and demanded cash from the clerk.

An information filed with the court by police alleges MacKenzie fled the store with $553.

Surveillance video from the robbery was posted on the police website and brought in several tips.
