Jarrod Wiener is president of Homburg Academy.

About two years after work started on Homburg Academy, the real estate school continues to grow, including a recent partnership with software firm Oracle.

Jarrod Wiener, the academy’s president, said starting a new venture is about figuring out where the opportunities, partnerships and demand are.

“And also just how we’re going to position ourselves in that market,” he said.

Homburg Academy, which is named after real estate mogul Richard Homburg, is based out of Zurich, Switzerland, and works in conjunction with the Charlottetown-based Homburg Institute.

It provides online training in real estate, including courses in business management, real estate finance and real estate development.

Wiener said there are more than 350 students using the academy’s on-demand portal to take courses.

The Oracle courses, which deal with the company’s business software packages, went online about a month ago.

Wiener said Oracle is giving support for the software, endorsing the program and giving educational discounts.

“Their logo is on the courses,” he said.

Kent MacDonald, who works on Homburg Academy’s curriculum development, said the school is working on professional development and has received certification from several professional organizations, such as the Canadian Construction Association.

The school is also starting to see some interest internationally, MacDonald said.

“All these are encouraging signs.”

MacDonald said there should be increased interest in the school this year.

“2014 should show sort of the fruits of the labour over the last couple of years,” he said.

I'm wondering how credible the certificate of completion is that you print off once you are finished of these courses? I'm assuming it wouldn't be the same as earning a degree from attending a university. If so, I wouldn't waste my money. I just started taking free online business courses from Stanford, a much more reputable institution than Homburg Academy.

I don't mean to be nit picky .... but does anyone else find the "Homburg" ensemble to be somewhat sketchy.....

Very much so. Didn't Homburg rip off us taxpayers with his last venture?
