Victoria Street near Spring Street in Charlottetown

Souris family of schools are closed for the day while the rest of Prince Edward Island's first day of school for 2014 has begun with a one-hour delay.

Both the English and French language school boards have implemented the delay this morning.

And it's a frigid morning to be waiting at the bus stop.

Environment Canada's Weather Office reports a cold airmass is expected to drop temperatures this morning to below -25C. These frigid temperatures along with brisk northwesterly winds will produce extreme wind chill values below -35C. Wind chill values will improve later today but temperatures will remain frigid.
