Skiers and snowboarders will be on the hill and on the trail weeks earlier than normal this year thanks to recent heavy snow.
At least five runs will be open at the alpine centre at Brookvale Provincial Park, and trails will be groomed for cross-country skiers. The ski park says it's been at least 10 years since the alpine centre has been open before Christmas.
“So we are very pleased Mother Nature gave us an early Christmas present in the form of snow for our skiers and snowboarders," said Tourism Minister Robert Henderson.
"I encourage all Islanders to join us at Brookvale this weekend for some healthy outdoor fun.”
Trails will also be groomed and ready for skiers at Mill River Provincial Park on Saturday. However, rentals will not be available until Dec. 26.
