Police pulled a driver to safety from a burning vehicle after the man struck a pole Sunday night in Charlottetown.

An officer with the Charlottetown Police Services used a shovel to break a window to get to the driver. Police report that the man was not attempting to exit the vehicle on his own.

Police removed the seat belt from the driver and helped the man out.

The vehicle, which collided with a pole on Water Street, was soon fully engulfed in flames.

The driver, a 52-year-old Charlottetown area resident, was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
