A selection of mature marijuana plants found Thursday in North Rustico.
A hunter came across a secluded grove of tall marijuana in North Rustico Thursday and it wasn't long before it was harvested, by police.
"The plants, all well in excess of five feet in height and very mature in their development, were discovered by an individual hunting in the area," said a police report. "The find was reported immediately and anonymously.
"These were very mature plants in advanced stages with a considerable amount of resin present," said Cst. Ben Sark. "We estimate as many as 8,000 marijuana joints would have resulted had these been harvested and distributed on the market.
"It is not uncommon for hunters to stumble on marijuana grows, especially this time of year when plants are ready for harvesting," said Sark. "We encourage outdoor enthusiasts to report anything of this nature, and this can be done through Crime Stoppers anonymously."
