Robert Ashley has been hired as Summerside's new CAO.
SUMMERSIDE – Robert Ashley has been hired as the new chief administrative officer for the City of Summerside.
Ashley was most recently the CAO for Kings County, N.S., and prior to that position he was CAO for the Town of Berwick, N.S.
Summerside city council announced Ashley’s appointment Friday.
“We are very fortunate to have attracted someone of such a high calibre as Bob Ashley to lead Summerside’s administration," said Mayor Basil Stewart.
"We conducted an extensive search and were successful in finding an excellent person to help lead our community. Mr. Ashley’s academic background and his professional accomplishments make him the right person for the job. We all look forward to working with him and wish him well in his new position."
Ashley graduated first in his class from Dalhousie University with a masters in public administration in 2005. He also completed the executive leadership program from Queen’s University in 2012.
Summerside last had a permanent CAO in April 2012 when Terry Murphy was placed on administrative leave. Murphy retired in June of that year and Malcolm Millar was named acting CAO. Millar retired in November and Gordon MacFarlane followed as acting CAO for the city, a position he's held since December 2012.
Ashley begins his tenure in the next few weeks.
