PLAN B HIGHWAY
The new TransCanada highway through Bonshaw was built in part to increase safety, but the RCMP is now finding the opposite is true.
"RADAR enforcement over the last few days have resulted in a number of charges for excessive speed "well above" the posted limit and some of it in construction zones," said a notice from the force issued Tuesday.
"Queens District RCMP are reminding motorists to follow the posted speed limits on the new highway sections at Bonshaw.
"Better alignment and new asphalt is making for increased speed in both directions," says Constable Jeffrey Dow.
He said the public needs to be aware of posted speed limits, construction equipment throughout the zone and hydroseeding operations.
The RCMP says it is continuing enforcement activity in the area.
Fines can be very high for speeding in construction zones, warned the police notice.
"The the Bonshaw alignment is well marked with signage at both ends and throughout," said Dow.
