Four Prince Edward Island communities are the recipients of a combined $190,610 in federal and provincial funding announced this morning in Sea View.
The Community of Kinkora, the Community of Malpeque Bay, the Sterling Women’s Institute and the Community of Crapaud will use the funding for repairs and upgrades to existing community facilities.
The two levels of government committed $77,000 to the Community of Crapaud carry out renovations and install an addition to the Crapaud Fire Hall. This includes work on the foundation, a new overhead door, insulation, roof replacement, new electrical fixtures and a heat pump.
In total, the federal government, through ACOA, will invest over $114,000 through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund. The P.E.I. government will invest over $76,610 under the Island Community Fund. Community proponents have each made contributions to their respective projects.
Federal Fisheries Minister Gail Shea and provincial Rural Development Minister Ron MacKinley were on hand for the announcement.
“Vibrant and sustainable communities require solid infrastructure for future prosperity. By making these investments in local infrastructure, we are helping to stimulate the economy and maintain a high quality of life for Islanders," said Shea.
