Boyd MacQuarrie takes a moment to pose for the camera, in front of some of his restored Massey Harris tractors as he prepares for his 14th annual Antique Power Show which will be held at his place in Bonshaw on Saturday, Aug. 31.
The Bonshaw hills will be alive with the sounds of vintage tractors and stationary engines on Saturday, Aug. 31, when Boyd MacQuarrie hosts his 14th annual Antique Power Show and tractor run.
Boyd's Tractor Day, as referred to by many, is always a big hit with children and adults and a highly anticipated event. It will be held at Boyd MacQuarrie's, 1286 New Argyle Rd., Bonshaw, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 1.
Admission and registration are free for everyone. The day includes lots of activities, such as a tractor run, a tractor parade, hay ride, children's activities, pedal pulls, tractor games and a canteen in support of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
This year the show is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the merger of Massey Harris Ferguson, but organizers emphasize, "all makes are welcome and there will be an excellent cross-section of all tractor makes."
MacQuarrie has 20 Massey Harris Ferguson tractors and expects that with good participation by local farmers and collectors, there will be an excellent representation of Masseys.
The show featured Massey Harris back in 2007; since then, MacQuarrie has acquired one Ferguson and three Massey Ferguson tractors. Two are considered to be the first true Massey Ferguson tractors, after the company decided to go with one line called Massey Ferguson.
The show is an opportunity for farmers and collectors to proudly display their equipment. Many are in their original condition, but in most cases, owners have spent hundreds of hours restoring to like-new condition.
"If you have a vintage tractor, organizers hope you will bring it to Boyd's Tractor Day so spectators will see the largest display of antique tractors on the Island and possibly in eastern Canada," says a release.
Last year 100 full-sized tractors plus stationary engines and lawn tractors were on display. MacQuarrie hopes to have 47 of his own tractors on the grounds, including his line of Massey Harris Ferguson tractors.
Come, reminisce, have some family oriented fun and support the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Tractor lovers of all ages will be in their glory.
