RCMP introduce Dutch and his partner Cpl. Marc Periard
Police on P.E.I. are back in action with a newly appointed police service dog
Dutch joins the RCMP L division with his handler, Cpl. Marc Periard.
"Dutch is a two-year old Shepard who was born in Alberta and raised in B.C.," says the RCMP. "Their training, which took place over an eight-week period, specialized in criminal apprehension, drug searches, missing people, physical evidence, basic obedience and agility."
Both Dutch and Periard trained at the Police Dog Service Training Centre.
They will be available at any hour, any day to all three RCMP districts on P.E.I. as well as providing assistance to municipal police services as needed.
Periard says in a press release that he is "very pleased with the work ethic Dutch has displayed so far and describes him as quick, fast, and alert."
Periard has 16 years in the police dog service, working with four dogs over that time.
Dutch arrived on P.E.I. on July 8 and has already responded to 15 calls, says the RCMP.
That includes helping arrest two suspects and locating evidence at two crime scenes.
