Stratford RCMP are urging area residents to be more vigilant in the wake of a rash of thefts from motor vehicles.
A statement issued by police said numerous calls have been received from residents whose cars have been rummaged through. A number of items have been taken, police say.
In one instance, an XBox gaming system was taken but it was recovered later in the morning thanks to the sharp eye of a Stratford resident.
In all reported cases of theft the vehicles had been unlocked.
The RCMP urge people to lock the doors to their vehicles and their residences at all times.
“Locked vehicles will deter this type of behavior,” RCMP say. “Once you begin locking up, it becomes second nature and can be the reason that your possessions are safe from theft.”
The RCMP in Stratford are also currently investigating several incidents of vandalism involving homes on Kinlock Road and Celtic Lane. Over the past few weeks eggs and rotten fruit have been thrown at the front doors and windows of residences in both areas.
Residents who see any suspicious activity in their neighbourhood are advised to call police as soon as possible.
Anyone with information regarding these activities or any other activities that are cause for concern is asked to call Stratford RCMP at 368-9300.
