Fire Marshal's Office busy with three recent fires

Firefighters from two departments battled a fire at Myers Industries, a recycling depot near Montague, last week.

BRUDENELL — A fire that destroyed the paper recycling plant operated by Myer's Industries here last week was probably the result of an electrical malfunction.

Deputy Fire Marshall Robert Arsenault ruled the fire accidental and said it likely started in the main building's electrical system. The facility was burned to the ground.

Arsenault was also called to a house fire on Rte 224 in New Glasgow on Saturday. The New Glasgow Fire Department responded to the call with mutual aid from North Rustico Fire Department.

His investigation into cause and origin is continuing. The home near the P.E.I. Preserve Co., was gutted, leaving a mother and several children homeless. There was no one home at the time of the fire.

The fire marshal is also continuing an investigation into cause and origin of a fire in an out-building at a residence in Clinton early Sunday morning.

New London was the responding department. The structure was destroyed.
