UPDATE: P.E.I. pedestrian struck, killed in white-out conditions

A major spring storm hit Prince Edward Island on Friday, March 22, 2013. The storm was blamed for the death of a 60-year-old North Milton, Prince Edward Island woman who was struck by a car while going out to get her newspaper.

Prince Edward Islanders awake to nasty winter morning

A 60-year-old North Milton woman was stuck and killed while crossing the highway in white-out conditions this morning in her home community.

The RCMP have identified the victim as Brenda Joyce Coles.

Queens District RCMP and Island EMS responded to the fatal vehicle-pedestrian collision on Route 7 at approximately 6:30 a.m.

Police say a vehicle travelling south on Route 7 struck Coles. The investigation is in its early stages, however, RCMP believe Coles was crossing the highway to pick up a newspaper and neither she nor the driver of the vehicle saw one another due to blowing snow. Coles was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say speed and alcohol were not a factor in this collision and no charges were expected.

My sympathy goes out to the family of this tragic ...also the person who hit her as with white outs it would be very easy to not see a person or car . Blessings to all concerned it is only another reason to watch where your children are playing at times of these storms .
