A wild two-day crime spree this week in Charlottetown has landed a Bonnie and Clyde-like pair of suspects in jail.

Charlottetown Police Services arrested and jailed a 30-year-old male and a 20-year-old female, both from Cornwall, after numerous criminal offences beginning Wednesday at 6:27 p.m. and ending at 12:37 a.m. Thursday morning.

The accused male was arrested in connection with two assaults, one theft charge, two charges of possession of stolen property, two dangerous driving incidents, and one charge of evading police.

These offences resulted from two different incidents of theft and shoplifting, and the assaults involve employees at these stores.

The accused was eventually apprehended when his car crashed into the ditch on the Malpeque Rd., near the Petro Can. Police said the accused was not being pursued by police at time of the collision.

Police had originally located and pursued the suspect vehicle at approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday evening but abandoned the chase when the driver accelerated to dangerous speeds. The vehicle was later located in the ditch just after midnight.

His female accomplice has also been arrested for her involvement in both the thefts and assaults.

Police said no serious injuries were sustained by any persons involved in this series of crimes.

Other charges could be laid as well, said police.

It would be a big supprise if these two even get jail time. They will claim to have had bad childhoods, she will claim she was abused and both their lawyers will say that since they were arrested, they have made effords to turn their life around, and are actively seeking employment. Throw in some tears, and they will end up with "time served awaiting trial". It is a good thing the driver wasn't drinking though. He would have gotten the book thrown at him. You can rob and steal and get nothing BUT have .09 BAL and you get big fines, jail time, and lose your license for a year. Something needs to change. Sorry for my rant but this really peeves me off.

Why no names in the story - I sure they have been released by the police

Isn't it great to live in a place where an assault, and a robbery with an arrest 6 hours later is a "wild crime spree"

Crime rates have risen drastically in Charlottetown. I find it pretty disturbing that the Guardian has taken to making some of these crimes sound 'cutesy and less than serious' by putting cute headlines, like 'Bonnie and Clyde crime spree', or the "funny" way the theft at the Montague Tim Horton's was reported. There is nothing funny or cute about the fact that we are becoming less and less safe and secure in our own neighbourhoods, and in our own homes. I for one miss the days when people would be appalled if someone simply walked into an unlocked house uninvited...those were the days.

Yeah, back in the good old days when segregation, holocausts, blatant homophobia and other injustices were a way of life. Give me a break.
