A Lennox Island family of six lost their home in a Monday morning fire.

The Provincial Fire Marshal’s office has ruled the fire accidental, believed to have been caused by a child playing with a lighter.

The fire damaged the split-entry, single-family dwelling beyond repair.

The fire call was answered by the Lennox Island Fire Department around 9:30 a.m. The Tyne Valley department was subsequently called for backup.

oh, my heart goes out to this family. I hope the child is ok and no burns. Many years ago this happened to a niece of mine when a younger brother climbed up on a counter and got hold of a lighter. The sister tried to take it away from him and she had on a nylon nightgown. It melted the nightgown right into the skin on her arm. She is a hero to her family as the Dad ran quickly and put it out. Children are curious about certain things and one never knows to what length they will go to play with something they like , that has been put safely away. God Bless them all in the days to come and I hope people near and far rally behind them to donate or volunteer their time to rebuild , as this could have been a total different outcome. Every now and again something like this happens to remind us all how precious a life is . Material things can be replaced .
