A woman who left a hair salon without paying could spend part of her pregnancy in jail after she finds out what her sentence will be next week on a fraud charge.

Jamie Lynn Gill, 27, appeared before Chief Judge John Douglas in provincial court Thursday to answer to a charge of defrauding Tangerine Hair in Charlottetown.

On Aug. 16, Gill went to the salon where she got her hair cut and coloured before trying to pay the $136.50 bill with her debit card.

There were insufficient funds in her account to pay and Gill told the salon's staff she would be right back.

Gill didn't go back, the police were called and they eventually arrested her in November.

At the time of the fraud, Gill was on probation for two thefts and has since been sentenced for two more.

Defence lawyer Thane MacEachern told the court Gill accepted responsibility for her actions.

He said Gill gave the money to her partner to pay the salon and assumed he had until the police contacted her.

She has since paid what she owed.

Gill is pregnant with her fifth child and has a June due date.

The previous theft charges landed Gill jail time, but she won't know her latest sentence until Wednesday when she is scheduled to appear in court again after Douglas asked for an updated pre-sentence report.
