Seven trucks and one grader parked for the winter at the Plan B construction site have been damaged, likely over the weekend, says the RCMP.

Sergeant Leanne Butler, RCMP spokesperson said that Queens district received the call Monday morning.

Windshields on every vehicle had at least two holes, about one or two centimetres in diametre, said Butler. Two of the vehicles had three such holes.

"The investigation is continuing and it is not known what caused the holes in the windshield," she said.

Work is still being done to arrive at a dollar figure for the damage, she said.

It was first reported by a person described as the risk management agent for Coastal Construction who had been on the site Friday and saw no damage at that time.

"We believe the damage occurred sometime over the weekend," said Butler.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or CrimeStoppers at www.peicrimestoppers.com where tips can be left anonymously with arrangements for a cash award.

Yes, Vandalism is wrong, but where did it start? No one thought to vandalize the vehicles until after Ghiz and co had severely vandalised the environment. In many other countries this reactionary vandalism would have been a lot more a lot sooner.

Pellets would only cause "bruising", they had to use a tool or a gun. Luckily they didn't know about Molotov Cocktails.... Plus the "risk management agent" must be as dumb as a post as there's considerable animosity towards the project, so Island Coastal decided to park all it's heavy equipment, unguarded, within 20' of the highway, rather then return it to their secure main yard, a short distance away.....which they normally do.....wierd.

Identical story as the seal pups. Dumb and dumber out for a thrill. No serious opponent or proponent of Plan-B would do that. Put a bounty on it!!!

Every time something like this is done, it costs the taxpayer more and takes RCMP away from patrolling the highway, catching drunk drivers, etc. It will cost the construction company some deductible, but in the long run, it only will serve to illuminate the disgracefully gullible and self righteous mindset of a small group of well-meaning but arrogantly loud people who think their opinions matter more than their fellow islander. Plan B is a good idea, is going ahead no matter what, and that's that. Every time I see a "Stop Plan B" bumper sticker, I'm reminded of how easily persuaded and facile that group was/is. I am surprised that the construction company didn't retain some kind of security on their payroll. Perhaps paying the deductible on the windows is a cheaper solution? Looking forward to driving on this new highway, and can't wait to see islanders at their usual best, going 50kmh uphill and 120kmh downhill. Let me take this opportunity to make a shout-out to young females driving SUV's: If you please stop tailgating, I promise to stop slamming on my brakes as an inspiration for you to stop. That may be sexist, but I'm just going after the obvious 90% of my experiences and mean this as statistically as possible. Oh, and get off the phone. Oh, and don't speed up when I'm passing you for going too slowly. Oh, and the signal light should be used before you turn. Oh, and when you turn left onto a one-way street, you're supposed to use the LEFT lane. Oh, and it takes very little effort and skill to put a car between two lines in a parking lot. Try it. Oh, and if you intend to turn left onto University Ave, try not to cut across two lines of busy traffic. Stop being so lazy and use the traffic lights or go right. Oh, and remember, SUVs are almost always the ones in the snowy ditches because some people seem to still think their stopping power and handling on slippery roads is as good as their forward traction.

I bet it was the bullies all wearing their pink shirts that did it.

Normally Bill I come here and get a great laugh at your posts. I know you don't mean to be funny, you think you are being serious with your opinions, but they are so far out there in left field that they make me laugh. trust me, no one takes anything you say seriously. Normally that is, but not this time, bullying is never a joking matter. There are kids killing themselves because they are bullied. You have offended many today with this post.

NOT A NEWS STORY....what kind of headlines would you like to be reading about in the paper; MURDER, ROBBERY, DUI CHARGES??? I'm appreciative of the province I live in, and if this is the extent of crime ( vandalism ) that's making headlines.....all the sweeter. SC...I concur with you totally.

probably bored teens and some pellets not a plan b opposser. I'm all for plan b but to see the contractor parking there equipment right up by the road is pure stupid on there part. Or more importantly on the overpaid risk manager. The farmers typically know better not to leave there equipment by the road over night. One would think a large contractor like this would? Especially on the contraversial plan b site.

People really have to grow up and stop vandalizing other people's property! Who cares about plan B!!!! They are building a new highway and making it safer for everyone who drives on the roads. Plan some new trees and stop complaining about something that is already done!! I think the Plan B is a great idea!! :)

Think for yourself and stop swallowing the brainwash. Yes it's done and the complaining should stop and vandalism is wrong... you're right about that. The rest is not in the same galaxy as correct. Plan B is proven to be deceitful, arrogant, unscrupulous, devious and fraudulent, but it is not safer and the protests and the vandals should stop.

Vandalism is an on going problem and this act is not isolated to the Plan B equipment. Companies involved in all types of construction are targeted, I know from experience. This is not worthy of print in the paper. Another tactic by the media to stir the pot on the plan B issue and point fingers. The company I work for has lost over 10 thousand dollars in vandalism over the past 15 years and it is a cost of doing business. Write an article about some REAL news.

Yes, this IS a news story - on many levels. Just because you are familiar with the construction industry doesn't mean most other Islanders are - so it is news to them. Plus the probable use of a firearm in the area should be a concern to local residents and they should be kept informed. Plus the connection with the plan B controversy. The next time you think something isn't newsworthy DON'T READ IT - and especially don't comment.
