A combination of high winds, heavy snow and falling branches have caused power outages affecting approximately 1,000 customers, an official with Maritime Electric said early Sunday afternoon.

Kim Griffin said that there are crews out now trying to restore power in a number of communities across the province.

Some of the outages are being caused due to broken tree limbs on lines while others are area lines slapping together.

A crew has been dispatched In the Eldon and Belfast area, customers have been experiencing flickering lights for most of the morning due to lines slapping together. Approximately 400 customers in that area are affected.

Another crew is working to restore power to approximately 400 customers in the Malpeque, Darnley and Seaview.

Crews have also been dispatched to Smith Road, South Granville, St. Patrick’s Road and Urbainville.

Maritime Electric has also had individual calls in areas such as Toronto Road, Mayfield, Cornwall, Clyde River and Smith Road.

An update will be provided later today.
