SUMMERSIDE — Threatening a couple with a knife has earned a 21-year-old city man five days behind bars.

James Patrick Sudsbury pleaded guilty in provincial court Thursday to uttering threats and a single count of possession of a weapon. The incident took place on Nov. 27, 2012.

City police received a complaint from a man and a woman who said that Subsbury had threatened to slit the woman’s throat in convenience store parking lot.

Sudsbury, who had his four-month-old daughter with him at the time, and the couple knew each other.

When Sudsbury made the threat he had a knife in his hand, which he quickly put back in his daughter’s diaper bag. He was later arrested. The entire incident was caught on the store’s video surveillance.

As part of his sentence, Sudsbury is prohibited from owning or possessing a weapon for three years and will be on probation for 12 months, during which time be must stay away from the victims.

    Being a police officer in summerside certainly wouldn't be a boring job.

    !?!?...Seriously???? Five days for threatening somebodys' lives? What is wrong with the justice system?? And the thought of this person is responsible for raising a child? I guess it goes to prove where these hoodlums come from, no doubt he was raised much the same way.

    5 whole days for a death threat with a weapon? Boy, that will certtainly send a strong message....................
