The O’Leary Health Centre walk-in clinic is closed today and the emergency department at Western Hospital in Alberton will close at 10 p.m. tonight due to a temporary lack of physician coverage.

Priority is given to filling physician shifts at the emergency department, which has resulted in the closure of the O’Leary walk-in clinic today. The emergency department will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (closed overnight) and will re-open at 8 a.m. Friday.

West Prince residents with urgent medical needs should call 9-1-1 or seek emergency services at the Prince County Hospital or the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

In non-urgent situations, all Islanders are encouraged to visit their family physician’s office or a walk-in clinic. Locations and hours are available at www.healthpei.ca/walkinclinics.

The province just hired 2 Anatheseits ( the person that puts you to sleep befor surgery, but i guess they won;t be doing a lot of that with the loss of so many doctors, and emerg dept closures. the frustration for us as patients and for the doctors that look so tired and can only do as much as they can handle. Maybe they will put the Senate on hold before we start doing our own needs. But damn that money those senators abused would help some where.

Hugh, while you may be frustrated due to the closure of the Montague hospital that is no reason to demand services be cut elsewhere. You are sounding like a politician. Under no circumstances should we stand for or allow further cuts to services. STOP GIVING UP WHAT OUR FATHERS AND GRANDFATHERS FOUGHT TO GIVE US. How soon we forget.

Bill......When these rural hospitals were built there were no paved roads, automobiles or walk in medical clinics. We need two fully staffed and fully equipped emergency hospitals and more walk in clinics so we no longer have to travel off island for our medical needs.

The residents of Kings County have no emergency services available to them from 10 pm to 8am. They have to travel to Ch'town during these hours and no one complains. The residents of West Prince should be treated the same as our Kings County residents and be expected to travel to the Prince County hospital for emergency services from 10 pm to 8 am. Keeping their walk in clinic open every day is more important then having 24-7 emergency services.
