Charlottetown Police Services arrested a 21-year-old Bristol male in relation to an assault with a weapon last weekend.

The assault occurred at a downtown nightclub and the victims were a 20-year-old Canavoy male and a 22-year-old Charlottetown area female.

Police said the female victim was struck with a beer bottle and required medical treatment for non life-threatening injuries.

All individuals involved were familiar to each other, said police.

The accused male, who left the club before police arrived, was later arrested following an investigation. He will be appearing in Provincial Court at a later date.

The issue here is assault, on both a male and female. More and more we are hearing of fights, assaults and severe beatings at the downtown bars. The police are stepping up paroles outside the bars, now its time for the bars to take some responsibility for serving , or over serving their customers. There is nothing wrong with people enjoying a social night out but there is nothing social about this and it apprears to be happening more and more. The police lay charges and the courts suspend the cases or give probation which is never followed. Time for appropriate consequences for inappropriate and criminal behavior.

I do not understand why people try to blame doctors prescribing these as the problem. These pills are coming in to PEI with Backus members in the bags over 100 to 1000 at a time, not in prescription bottles. These are not prescribed pills, but pills directly from the wholesaler/manufacturer. We need to realize that the problem is beyond our provincial borders and with the manufacturers/wholesalers themselves.

Bill, your conspiratorial rant left out the majority of those whose lives have been improved by some of those meds. To some, those meds can be a godsend and help them live TOTALLY normal lives. Why not consult an actual physician before you label all such meds as evil, because you're speaking without thinking.

Yes, while they MAY help a few, they definitely do not help the many. Since you purport to know what you are talking about perhaps you could point to these independent blind studies on the effects these drugs have on real people. Conspiracies have now become fact. It is too bad you cannot or WILL NOT open your eyes and see the truth. Almost every system on the planet has become corrupted and pigs cannot smell their own stink. You must get your facts from CNN.

People, do you really think that with a shrinking tax base (gov policies are driving everyone out west, plus there are no jobs here) and increasing health care costs (because it is all profit motivated) that these health care problems are going to get resolved? We are on the crap end of a stick that is getting shorter and shorter all the time, yet most cannot see it. The gov blames the docs, the docs blame the gov, the people blame them both and the people are right. The people are always right. Unfortunately our government is set up as an adversarial type instead of a co-operation type. Our parties must learn to work together for the best interest of the people.

Perhaps we should ask the question "besides alcohol were these people on SRI drugs (Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitors), prozac, zoloft, paxil, etc., etc. You know, the legal drugs that hurt more than they help. Perhaps we could ask our doctors to stop prescribing these types of SRI's to people. Oh right, then the poor pharmaceutical industry would suffer because after all, in the last 20 to 30 years what have they actually produced. Did they come up with any cures? Or they just taking our money (and lots of it) because they do not have to produce cures. There is no legislation that mandates healthcare or pharmaceutical companies to do what is right. The only legislation regarding these matters are laws to protect their different corporate monopolies.
