The Atlantic Small Dog Rescue is working with Animal Rescue Corps and a California shelter to place a number of dogs on P.E.I.

Friends of Palm Springs Shelter, located in California, is overrun with dogs which have been rescued from puppy mills, neglectful owners and hoarding situations.

“We will be opening our hearts and homes to as many as 15 dogs from California, offering them a new opportunity to find permanent homes here in Canada,” says Nahleen Ashton, vice-president of Atlantic Small Dog Rescue.

Ashton, who resides in the Bridgetown area, says the Palm Springs Shelter is flooded with dogs.

“We really require the public's help for this rescue in several ways. It’s likely there will be some costly vet bills associated with the 15 or so small dogs.”

Ashton also says Atlantic Small Dog Rescue is in need of

food, crates, blankets, jackets, leashes and collars for the new arrivals.

The dogs, which are currently travelling across the country in an RV, are expected to arrive in the coming days.

As Atlantic Small Dog Rescue prepares for their arrival, they are asking that anybody willing to donate either items or funds to visit their website at www.asdrescue.com.

I don't expect everybody to agree to this and I expect some people to complain..That's the Island way now..I am Thankful that every one of these dogs were brought to Canada..Nobody forced anybody to adopt them..Yes we have dogs here in Shelters as well and the majority are adopted..It's the poor cats that do not get adopted. A huge amount of cats are destroyed each year..I for one don't care if the dogs came from California or China..Because we excepted them we saved everyone of those dogs from being destroyed..So many animals being destroyed each year because of the IGNORANCE of people..How many animals have to die before people realize that they have to spay and neuter their animals ..I am just happy that all those dogs were able to find homes and they received a second chance of life in a home where they will be loved..I see know need for people arguing over this..The fees were covered by the adoption fee's and NOBODY was forced to adopt a dog..I give a Huge Thank You to everybody that made this possible..I think it's amazing to see 2 countries come together and save the lives of so many innocent animals

The shelter in question also had approximately 300 cats and kittens, most of which may still be there... I hope those cats and kittens will be rescued as well. Thank you to the various rescue groups and individuals who are helping these animals - no matter where they are located.

Don't we have our own animals to rescue on PEI ? Why spend at least a thousand dollars on fuel to bring other peoples unwanted animals. Spend the money used on fuel to promote the local animals.

As if we don't have enough unwanted dogs in PEI, they bring them in from California? Those dogs in California are mostly unwanted dogs in Mexico, so now they bring them here and I suppose we will have to pay for the cost of these dogs, including vet bills. If these people want to rescue Mexican dogs, then they should be prepared to pay for them and stop bumming money from people who are unemployed,on welfare or EI. Sometime you have to be cruel to be kind.

You call yourself a dog lover, but obviously you are not. You are more of an internet troll lover. Now, let's rip your argument apart. First, who is this "we" you are talking about. By the sounds of your post you certainly will not donate to this animal rescue group although you claim to be a dog lover. When these dogs are adopted why would the general public be expected to pay for the vet bills? Until they are adopted, the rescue group pays. Also, your last statement has to be the dumbest I have heard in a long time. Money can only be "bummed" if the person asked for money actually gives it. The English language contains the word "no" and that is all anyone has to say if asked for money. Too bad the word compassion does not enter your vocabulary. See, I was cruel to you so you can see how dumb you are.

I agree with Dog Lover. This is silly. They should have at least gotten Florida or New York dogs. I'm sure having a RV full of stray dogs gets some messy.

PIET HEIN...You werent "cruel to me",you were "dumb" to me. As you quote,"Money can only be "bummed" if the person asked for money actually gives it." When they ask you for money and you give it, then they are "bumming". That's not a difficult concept for most people, why is it for you? Ashton, who resides in the Bridgetown area, says the Palm Springs Shelter is flooded with dogs.As I said in my post, those dogs are picked up in Mexico and brougt to Palm Springs.
