A Charlottetown man sour after losing an arm-wrestling competition to a woman may face charges after his reaction caused what police described as a “large brawl.”
Police are continuing to investigate the brawl that broke out on Kent Street near Starbucks at approximately 10:54 p.m. Thursday.
“Charges will be laid against a couple of individuals,” said Charlottetown Police Sgt. Walter Vessey, adding that police are still in the process of obtaining statements from witnesses.
The origin of the brawl began inside Pizza Brothers restaurant on Kent Street.
Vessey said a man and woman had been arm wrestling inside the restaurant.
“Apparently, the girl won and the guy took exception,” said Vessey.
The man later confronted the woman outside on Kent Street close to Starbucks, said Vessey.
“He became physical with her,” he said. “There was a crowd around that took exception and jumped him.”
Vessey added at least four to five individuals were involved.
Police have also interviewed several witnesses who were not involved.
The woman suffered superficial injuries while the man, 37, was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers also arrested a 19-year-old city man at the scene.
