What a shame! This young man needs help to get his life back. My impression is that he acted not from poverty, lack of necessities, but from some kind of substance addiction, and that can be treated successfully, and it will never happen by incarceration, but with treatment from doctors and other professionals, whoever knows about rehabilitation, and this young fellow deserves to receive everything there is to offer, and no, I do not know him or who he might be, but he most surely is one of us, a brother, and we need to help such young people, and 41 is still very young, not by pointing fingers but with compassion. (Who knows, he might have children who need him desperately, so we must do the positive, or it will come back on us in future, if that's any reason to help another.) I think I made my point, help, not blame or punish! Does not work that way!

As the local economy on the Island worsens expect this type of crime plus violent crime to start increasing. You should be able to see a direct correlation between rising crime stats and the failing economy. Although those of you in your insulated ivory towers will continue to deny the reality of the situation (rising costs, shrinking tax base through fewer workers, etc., etc.) those of us on the ground can see this happening now. My question is this, in light of the worsening economy and poor economic forecasts what is our government doing in preparation of these coming trying times? They are cutting essential services, police numbers, etc., etc., all in a time when they should be increasing, not decreasing. Government is a self sustaining cancer that has grown beyond checks and safeguards. What are we to do with a system of government that no longer listens to the people? What are we to do with a government whose only concern is self preservation? Government is supposed to be there to guarantee survival of our nation and our people, not to guarantee survival of itself.
