An arm wrestling contest gone awry was the cause for a large brawl that erupted at a local eatery Thursday night, say police.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a disturbance on Kent Street, near Prince Street, Thursday night at 10:54 p.m.

Officers arrested a 19-year-old city male while a 37-year-old area male was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown with non life threatening injuries.

Police said they're continuing to investigate the incident and that more charges may be pursued.

Police also responded to a disturbance Thursday night on Gordon Drive at approximately 7:09 p.m.

Officers arrested a 35-year-old city male with breaching an existing probation order.

The accused male was jailed at the Provincial Correctional Centre and will appear in court at a later date.

It's time that people take responsibility for their own decisions and not past the blame for their behaviour onto other people. Here's an idea when your feeling tipsy stop drinking. It's that easy. I do it all the time. No one has to cut me off I take responsibility for myself. I don't want to live in a nanny state.

"arm wrestling contest gone awry".......:( Armed duals on the dark streets of Ctown....sad times we live in.... Good god we should ban all arms because people are irresponsible. Or at least make them register their arms and do a Phyc eval before they can use them. Only single arms too, who needs multiple arm capacity any??????.

Bars don't serve anymore alcohol than they used to. Brawls have existed for hundreds of years. People have always left the bars drunk and looking for a fight. It's the way we Islanders work. The problem is that now when a fight breaks out people usually don't use their fists anymore, they usually use a weapon. The ones who leave the bars not knowing "where or who they are" are usually bombed out on pills, coke, or another illegal substance. Bars do not serve these people these substances. People always want to blame the bars, but it's not the bars fault that the people they are serving are morons who would fight their mother if she said the wrong thing. Guys (and gals) get a few into them and they think they are Mike Tyson. I've seen it for years and we will always see it no matter what the bar serves them. The bars aren't to blame, the people who start these brawls are.

To worried mom, the problem isn't that bars are over serving, it's that a lot of young people are poor and can't justify spending $5-6/drink, to get drunk, So they buy a pint or a quart and drink it before going to the bars, that way they're all super smashed before evening buying a beer. I see ladies sneaking in flasks, beers and entire bottles into their purses and sneak into the bathroom to drink it down fast before getting caught, or buying pop and mixing it themselves to save $$, that's the real danger. Combine that with small businesses that allow too many people. Drunk people + feeling crowded, usually results in a fight, broken bottles/glasses, people getting hurt. I honestly stay away from bars for the reason of it's not worth it to pay $7 to go to a bar I hardly want to go to, to listen to a shitty band, bad dj, surrounded by cougars, nasty old pervrted men who sit in the corner waiting for a drunk girl to fall victim, or douche bags who want to act tough and start fights. There are a lot of scum bouncers though that think they can do whatever they want and it only takes 1 time of throwing someone out too hard and they end up seriously hurt or paralysed to be a multi-million lawsuit and end a business in an instance.

    Nothings Changed
    - February 3, 2013 at 01:27:52

My bar days are long behind me, but nothings changed in the last 30 years that I know of. I always heard horror stories and even seen a few. One example I had a friend that was LED out of the 'Back-doors' of a now closed bar with his brother and another friend by the 6 bouncers and then jumped, putting 2 of them in the hospital. When they tried to press charges, the staff all swore that it was the 3 that started it. That was 20 years ago, and it's still 'always' the patrons fault. Bars will never accept that they serve someone too much, the excuse will always be ' I cut him off, someone else must have been buying for him.' The real solution when someone clearly has had too much is get them out the door and into a cab, not toss then to the curb and say 'You're on your own.'

Drinking establishments are over serving their patrons ! People are leaving the bars so hammered they don't know where or who they are. I also remember the young man who died as a result of an after hours fight. Bouncers at clubs are throwing people out the door on to the pavement or down a flight of stairs! Maybe there needs to be a giant lawsuit. Then maybe the bars would become more responsible servers.

@ Piet Hein: Here's something for you to read: http://www.gov.pe.ca/courts/supreme/reasons/202B.pdf Just Wondering does have legit concerns. Why do you always feel the need to hurl insults at everyone on this board? I have a feeling you wouldn't have the nerve to say half the stuff you do when you're not hiding behind a computer screen!
