ALBERTON – Lack of physician coverage is prompting the closure of the emergency department at Western Hospital in Alberton once again. The emergency department will be closed all day Monday, Feb. 4, and will operate on a limited schedule for four other days this month.

The emergency department will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (closed overnight) on Sunday, Feb. 3, as well as Feb. 8, 9 and 13. In addition, the department will be closed on Monday, Feb. 4, for 24 hours, from 8 a.m. until 8 a.m. the next day.

West Prince residents with urgent medical needs should call 911 or seek emergency services at the Prince County Hospital in Summerside or the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown.

In non-urgent situations, all Islanders are encouraged to visit their family physician's office or a walk-in clinic. Locations and hours are available at www.healthpei.ca/walkinclinics

HealthPEI is a joke and is the main reason why we have NO healthcare on PEI!! Too many fatcats getting big bloated pay cheques from our healthcare dollars instead of that money going towards doctors and healthcare services. Once we get rid of HealthPEI...then we will start to provide adequate healthcare to Island Taxpayers!
