Crews from Maritime Electric are working today to restore power in New Brunswick.

Kim Griffin, the utility’s spokesperson, said eight linesmen working in crews of two were focused in the Moncton area.

As of 1 p.m. Friday, about 15,000 people were still without power in New Brunswick, down from roughly 20,000 earlier in the day.

Griffin says sending the crews to New Brunswick does not hamper Maritime Electric’s ability to address power outages in P.E.I.

“It’s just important that we have a strong base crew on the Island, which we do,’’ she said.

Maritime Electric will bill New Brunswick Power for the cost of sending in the crews, she adds, noting there would be no cost to P.E.I. customers.
