MORELL — It will be business as usual — or as usual as it can be considering the circumstances — on Monday, Feb. 4, when Dunphy Custom Woodworking re-opens its doors in a temporary location, just 10 days after a devastating fire destroyed the well-established business in Morell.
Dunphy is temporarily relocating to 22A Myrtle St. in the Stratford Business Park until the factory is rebuilt in Morell.
Owners Joe and Lisa Dunphy say they have received an outpouring of support after their family business burned to the ground when a fire erupted in their workshop in the early hours of January 25.
Though the building and all contents were destroyed in the fire, the spirit of the family is well intact, said Dunphy.
The phone number is still the same (902-961-2848), and the business is operating with a skeleton crew from the original team of 11 employees until the workshop is rebuilt just down the road from where it stood for 25 years, on the St. Peters Highway on the western outskirts of Morell.
“Myself and Lisa, along with our children, Mary Beth, Michael and Jenny, wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has come to our aid since the workshop went up in flames,” said Dunphy.
“We will be forever grateful to the firefighters from Morell, St. Peters, Mount Stewart, and the East River Fire Departments who battled the blaze for almost 24 hours. Those volunteers were out there in the worst of conditions with temperatures in the -20 Cs to help save our home, and they can never know just how thankful we are,” says Lisa Dunphy.
The Dunphys also expressed their appreciation to family members, friends and neighbours who arrived at their door with meals, and those who brought hot drinks and soup for the firefighters.
Joe Dunphy also noted the support from businesses and individuals who offered tools, equipment and space for him to set up shop.
“We had phone calls from all of our competitors and colleagues from every cabinetry shop from Souris to Summerside, offering us space to work from and I want to extend thanks to all of those people for their support.”
