KENSINGTON — Members of the Prince District JFO Drug Unit stopped a vehicle Wednesday in Kensington and arrested a 31-year-old Summerside man for possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

During the course of the investigation, police seized 10 grams of cocaine and a cellphone.

Thane Douglas Simmons was brought before a justice of the peace and released and will appear next in Summerside provincial court on March 14.

The Prince District JFO Drug Unit is comprised of officers from the Summerside Police Service and the East and West Prince RCMP detachments.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old Summerside man and a 19-year-old Georgetown, Ont., man face fraud charges following an alleged incident at a Summerside store on Wednesday.

Summerside police laid those charges.

It is alleged that the two men entered Canadian Tire and tried to purchase merchandise after they had changed price tags on the items.

The price on one item was allegedly changed from $150 to $17.93 and on a second item from $69 to $9.93.

The two men, whom police did not name, were released and will appear in Summerside provincial court at a later date.

I agree with the Islander.Great Job to the Drug unit..well done, any amount of cocaine is too much.We have too many drugs and pills on this Island.I hope this Mr.Simmons gets more than a slap on the wrist. It's time to set an example with this person as the court has done with drinking and driving.

DM TOM, and Derp ,your young and maybe doing some dipping or playing with drugs and think your the cat's meow in your crowd...that's your business..but 10 grams for the purpose of trafficking that never hit the street ..is nice to see in S'Side ..someday when you grow up(if you EVER do) and have kids ..you may think twice about making smart alec comments about a drug that is ruining people's lives.........

as someone who's been there and done that (7 years clean), thank-you. 10 grams being personal is personal opinion. 10 grams being for the purpose of trafficking is the law. I bet DM TOM, and Derp didn't consider that it could have been individually bagged in separate grams which would also indicate purpose of trafficking.

Cool Man, I'm old enough to know the difference between "your" and "you're". Also, I was just suggesting that Derp was way off in their price estimates. In the 80's and early 90's coke was going for $100 a gram, but nowadays it's significantly cheaper. That would suggest the Derp is older than you suspect. Though, if you're they type of person who writes off peoples opinions based on age, then I suspect you aren't much for critical thinking either and this whole post will fly right by you.

Someone should tell the Members of the Prince District JFO Drug Unit that 10 grams is personal amount, lol maybe they did know but it was their first time ever dealing with coke so they got all excited.

10 Grams of cocaine is considered personal? I'm pretty sure someone could easily score $1000 from that. If 10 grams is your personal you are obviously a greasy addict and deserve what you get. Get your life together....
