City buys land for St. Peter's Road roundabout

The City of Charlottetown bought some land this week on the way to putting a roundabout at the intersection by Vogue Optical and Leon's Furniture.

Officially it is called the St. Peter's Road, Brackley Point Road, Belvedere Avenue intersection redesign project.

Two resolutions from public works committee chair, Coun. Terry Bernard, were unanimously adopted to add land to the public right-of-way at that intersection.

The resolutions said that after a market-value review, the city purchased about 275 square metres of land from the Gray Group Inc. for $41,160.

The city also bought 520 square metres of property from 100587 PEI Inc. for $70,362. The company lists Daniel P. Murphy as president.

So looking at the picture of the roundabout, can someone tell me how that is going to work ? Looking at the photo, it does not look anything like the roundabouts we now have.

Great....can't come soon enough...worst intersection, and probably one of the busiest in Charlottetown....what exactly this has to do with a woman's homeless shelter, I don't know!

One more traffic light on this intersection (when you want to turn off St Peter's Road onto Belvedere Ave ) would make this intersection better for a whole lot less money.

That Vogue building is right smack in the middle of where this roundabout should go. Just expropriate the entire property and knock down that building. Please!

  The roundabout should go BESIDE all the roads??? Shouldnt the intersection be built WHERE the roads intersect...?

  Look at the intersection in Google earth and you'll see what I mean. The Vogue building is in the way.

Is this going to provide new jobs? If not it should be scrapped and the money should towards a homeless shelter for women. Why not look to the feds for money for a homeless womens shelter? The feds are only interested in getting us to waste or spend our matching dollars on things are not really necessities, therefore leaving us incapable of doing the things we really "need". it is just another way government shows us that they do not care about the poorest amongst us.

  With greatest respect, I would like to see a homeless shelter for women, however, as one of thousands of commuters who frequently use St Peters Road, I am very glad to see this project moving forward. My only wish is that it would be built this summer and not in 2014.

  What wee really need is for someone to teach people how to use the circles properly. I can see lines and lines of cars backed up because some poor soul is scared to enter the intersection. It happens all the time at smaller circles, how is this circle going to be any different. I use St. Peter's Road a lot also. What is your point? Is it a safety concern because we all know we are never safe enough for everyone? Is it only that your commute will go faster, how much faster do you need to go and doesn't faster speeds usually mean more accidents.
