Snowmobile taken from Meadowbank residence

Queens district RCMP is reporting a number of thefts in the Cornwall area, including a stolen snowmobile taken from a Meadowbank residence.

Sometime after 10 p.m. last night and 7 a.m. this morning, a snowmobile was stolen from the Dingwells Lane residence.

The snowmobile is described as a 1995 Bombardier Formula 380, red in colour. It has a red "Roadwarrior Recreation" sticker on the windshield and a distinctive yellow cord along the edge of the driver's seat.

A white cargo van was observed driving slowly in the area Wednesday afternoon.

Police are seeking the assistance of anyone who might have information to assist with locating both the snowmobile and/or the person responsible for the theft.

As well, Queens RCMP received a number of complaints today of unlocked vehicles in the Cornwall being rummaged through overnight. As a result, small amounts of money and various electronic items, which were left in the unlocked vehicles, were stolen.

RCMP reminds people to lock vehicles and not leave any valuables visible in the vehicle while unattended.

"Stealing items from locked vehicles is a much more difficult crime and often the locked door is enough incentive to cause the criminals to move on," an RCMP news release states. "Always lock the doors to your cars and your homes. It's an easy step towards keeping you, your family and your possessions safe."

Anyone with information on either investigation is asked to contact the Maypoint detachment of the RCMP at 368-9300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

I had my car rummaged through in Cornwall last night. I had nothing of value in it and intentionally leave it unlocked BECAUSE I've had theives smash the windows of my locked car before. To Amanda, no one deserves to have their personal belongings touched, stolen, or broken regardless if they forgot to lock their door or not !

Realllllllly getting sick of all the news stories re: theft from vehicles. If you arent smart enough to lock your car, then you arent smart enough to own anything of value.

I think it is ridiculous that people cannot have their own car parked into their own driveways without some moron coming and breaking into it! I also leave my car unlocked so I do not have to pay for busted out windows. If they want into it bad enough they will smash the window. And for you Amanda... how dare you say people who leave their car unlocked dont deserve to have valuable things. THese are hard working people that have their car parked on their own property! with an attitude like yours you are probably one of the morons that would do something like this!
