Blake Doyle says he is confident interim leader will be in place soon

Outgoing PC Leader Olive Crane is flanked by fellow Progressive Conservative MLAs, James Aylward, left, and Hal Perry during the news conference announcing her resignation as PC leader.

As the Progressive Conservative party continues to scramble in the wake of Olive Crane’s imminent resignation as party leader, PC president Blake Doyle says he is confident the party will soon have a strong interim leader in place.

The party has been the focus of much attention over the last several weeks, especially after Crane announced last month she is quitting as party leader, but staying on as Opposition leader.

Many within the party did not know these two roles could be separated, and this has been the cause of much confusion and upset among some members, notably those who did not support Crane’s leadership.

Many are concerned this will mean there will be two PC leaders going forward — an Opposition leader (Crane) and an interim party leader — and question which one would be the proper representative of the membership.

Doyle says he has fielded many questions from members on this issue.

“It has created quite a bit of interest in the party dynamics and the party constitution and I think the process is very good because it has demonstrated that we do have an organized structure to deal with these unforeseen circumstances,” he said.

The next hurdle for the party to overcome is getting an interim leader in place.

The interim leader must be chosen within 30 days of Crane’s resignation. Any member in good standing can put their name forward for this position, but if more than one person does, the final decision will be made via election by the members of the party executive and the five elected MLAs.

Doyle said Wednesday the executive has asked the other four PC MLAs to consider serving as interim leader. But so far none have said whether they are interested.

If none of them do put their name forward, the interim leader could be an unelected party member.

“At this point, we haven’t had a conversation about who would will fill that position and the position is currently not vacated yet, so we cannot have a vote seeking that replacement,” Doyle said.

Doyle was cautious when answering The Guardian’s questions Wednesday, citing concerns over possibly generating confusion among the membership.

But sources have told The Guardian the executive and other members of the party have expressed frustration at the media spotlight that has been shone on the party and its inner processes and meetings in recent weeks.

Sources have also told The Guardian many members believe Crane is causing ongoing division within the party by staying on as Opposition leader while not being willing to serve as interim leader.

Crane said in December she is doing this to ensure continuity in the legislature as the party undergoes its processes to select a new leader.

But that hasn’t stopped some members from suggesting she wants to keep the Opposition leader job in order to retain the higher salary and government-sponsored vehicle.

Doyle did not discuss the situation involving Crane, except to say he is confident the party will move forward stronger from the current situation. He admitted it is not what he envisioned when he put his name forward for the presidency.

But he said he is committed to the party and will work to help it through this time of transition.

“I am 100 per cent up for this challenge,” Doyle said.

“I feel we have a great plan to move the party forward and that the association is absolutely moving forward.

He added details about the leadership convention have not yet been discussed or determined by the party executive.

5 sure fire ways to know if you are a female ‘wannabee’ in the “ backroom boys” club : ( a female “wannabee in the backroom boys club” is a female who holds a position of power and/or authority to corruptly interfere with the laws, rights, and/or policies in place to protect females against assault, harassment, for example, which the boys club promote. In corrupt societies and parties, these females are prevalent as they will gain rewards with being associated with and doing favors for the ‘old boys’ and in return, they gain promotions, and other such rewards, as well as, protection from accountability since their silence protects the ‘boys club’ as well. The ‘backroom boys’ and ‘wannabees’ are hard to abolish due to the corrupted nature, non-transparency, and cover-ups within such corrupted policial parties and systems. Where there is transparency, honesty, and accountability, found in non-corrupted political parties, there are No ‘backroom boys’. 5 sure fire ways to know you are a female ‘wannabee’ in the ‘old boys club’ if: #5) When asked if you will breach contracts , lie and destroy any key evidence necessary to harm female victims to protect abusers; you respond; YES! YES! YES! #4) Will corrupt your position of power, office, profession or occupation, to further abuse the victim and place future females at risk: YES! YES! YES! #3) Will always blame the victim, always defame victim to others , lie to any investigators; and you respond YES! YES! YES! #2) Will never develop a conscience, will never feel any empathy, while you witness and take part in further horrendous abuses and destruction of a victim, will always deny, deny, deny any wrongdoing and protect all those involved to continue to be a part of the destruction and ruination of a female victim: you respond YES! YES! YES! #1) Will meet secretly and openly with one of the ‘old boys’ club members who is in charge of the particular abuse of this targeted female, regardless of any repulsion there maybe towards any appearances, will always be happy and excited to be in his presence, may include socializing if ‘old boy’ requests, and will accept all promotions and/or other rewards for your unethical, if not criminal, involvement: and you answer YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! Let’s get her! Madeline Albright says, ‘there is a special place in hell’ for such women; but, hopefully, there will also be a special place in the prison system for such corrupted women. It is interesting to note, that when such women are finally held accountable, the 3 most common ‘defenses’ used were: “I really didn’t understand the situation”, “I didn’t know what they were planning to do to her”, and “If I had known what they were planning, I would never have been involved”. Of course, evidence proves otherwise when they were subsequently held under a transparent, honest investigation; not to mention the ‘ignorance defense’ does not work in the judicial system. The PC party will continue to destroy itself since the 'backroom boys' were caught destroying their own leader. It has been known that the 'backroom boys' were trying to overthrow Mrs. Crane since she was elected and she would not cave to their demands, she is an honest and hard working woman. There are female 'wannabees' too. They have assisted in destroying more than Mrs. Crane and caused severe abuses in order to re-victimizing females.

Re: the Backroom Boys... this is a clique of individuals who have exploited their connections and will not part willingly with the entitlements they have been assuming will come their way 'when' the PCs regain power. Their frustration and fear led them to do fool-hearty and desparate things - like opening challenge for a 'leadership' review. Their intentions were announced only AFTER the deadline passed to join the party and vote on the matter last fall... it would be interesting to see a list of people who bought memberships just prior to the deadline as you can bet the Backroom Boys had signed up as much support as they could muster prior to that deadline. I don't see the gender issue entering into to it at such a high degree - had their leader been a male and been willing to expose some unpalatable truths and not play the game by their rules, he would have been undermined and sabatoged in much the same way. It is much more self-focused on their part - their greed, their desire for power and their fear - rather than about how they feel about a Ms Crane as a female leader.

  • Ten top ways to deal with backroom boys
    January 13, 2013 - 05:17

    10 top ways to deal with PC backroom boys: #10) Will be connected to lie detector tests and will answer questions, in PUBLIC, regarding any and all corruption, lying, their plans to oust Mrs. Crane in such an undemocratic, and unethical manner. #9) All backrooms will be locked, as per the NEW PC party guidelines #8) All attempted hostile take-overs, harming females, including and not limited to Mrs. Crane is now prohibited #7) The Backstabbing of females is now prohibited and violators will not be rewarded, as per new PC guidelines. #6) Must complete 1 meaningful task without the use of any immoral, underhanded, and/or abuse of power, .#5) All gag orders forced on victims, will be null and void. All victims will now be able to report how and why such silencing gag clauses were forced upon victim and will be able to report on all criminal activity, cover-ups and abuses that were concealed by any backroom lawyer . #4) Attend week long courses on “how to be a real man”; “how to respect a woman” #3) On weekends, for 1 year, in public, must wear clothing with such messages proclaiming “real men do not abuse the rights of others”; “real men are not afraid of women with power”; “real men allow women to be leaders”; “real men don’t abuse, harass, re-victimize women”; “real men do not backstab others’; “real men do not continue to abuse the human rights of female victims”; “real men do not plan undemocratic, overthrows of leaders in back rooms”… #3) Walk around town, with a sign, to claim: “I will not plan backstabbing strategies in the backroom anymore” #2) Have to function in society for a week, without abusing their power, lying, or causing harm, destruction, to another person, including, but not limited to, Mrs. Crane. #1) The Party and Public reacts to such behavior, from the backroom boys, so they will be forced from organizations where they cannot continue to abuse their powers and cause such devastating harm and losses to others. JUST SAY “NO” TO BACKROOM BOYS! JUST SAY “NO” TO PC PARTY WHILE THEY SUPPORT SUCH BACKWARD, BACKROOM BEHAVIOURS! “The root of all evil, is the abuse of power”—P. Cornwell;

Then in the next breath, they are cutting down the paper who publishes what those backroom bellie boys are leaking out to further humiliate their ELECTED former leader. HYPOCRITS! Next we will be hearing that they are going to hold those responsible who made so much money on the corrupt pnp; or maybe they will be yelling about supporting female rights...again...too much to stomach They , the backroom bullies, destroyed the PC party. It is over for them. NDP- let's go...you will be taking over Next election will be Lib vs NDP.

As usual, the media puts a bad spin on the situation because it does not understand the situation. The Opposition Leader must from a sitting MLA because the Opposition's job is to oppose the government in the operations of the House/Legislature. The Party Leader leads the Party. In an ideal world, this will be the same person. However, just in case the Party Leader is not an elected MLA, the two roles must be kept separate. You cannot have an Opposition Leader who is not in the House. Period. If one of the other sitting MLAs becomes Interim Party Leader, then they will also assume the role of Opposition Leader (Crane said early on that she would step aside if this situation arose - a fact the media conventiently forgets). However, if the Interim Party Leader turns out not to be a sitting MLA, then the sitting MLAs are responsible to choose an Opposition Leader from within their ranks, which they did and they chose Crane. So, media, get your portrayal of the situation accurate instead of trying to feed the fire to create stories.

Are you capable of forming any opinion on your own, or are all your opinions formed from the press releases of Senator Duffy? garth, I really think you should take a run at the Tory leadership. It would be good for you to do t his, that way you would get an honest opinion of what the rest of the tories think of you. At least you would get two votes, yor own and your wifes. doyle you say the party will make it well are you, lee, blake going to leave the party? to me that is the only way it will make. Well I have voted for both the PC’s and LIB but now I’ll not be voting for either as I vote for the person but with Blake Doyle or lee involved they are out to kill the party I wonder why? Then “Blake said that Monday's meeting will be the one and only time that members will be asked for input and ideas into the leadership status issue.” Why is that they are paid members and they have no right to ask questions so I guess blake has the idea you pay my wages but shut up as you have no right to ask anything I’ll tell you what you can and cannot do. That to me is a hell of a party. They need to dump these fools and get new backroom boys. But I can tell you this the new leader will be a male not female as these guys are male chauvinist’s they put out pat and now Olive two great leaders but they were doomed from the start as they were not good little slaves to the want to be big boys. But what gets me is the add said "Everyone Welcome To Attend." Then they put out the reporters well to me that is false advertising so much for brains. Go NDP...

There really is not much need for a PC party on PEI any more. I can understand New Brunswick having a PC government because they can probably benefit from the Conservative plan for Maritime Union. Mike Duffy choked the last breath out of the Tory party here when he wheezed out the Maritime Union chatter a few weeks back. That is all they needed in the middle of their gender war on PEI. That Maritime Union babbling makes no sense here especialy when Ottawa is busy closing everything down on the Island. Most PC voters should go NDP now. They can turn their backs on both Harper and Ghiz by doing this. The Tory party here is just a few Harperites and a few scammers helping Ghiz cover up PNP and trying to get a cut of the new deal for Maritime Electric. NDP is the way to go. Stick it to both these wolf packs. They are in every scam together- PNP, Plan B, HST, etc. It will feel very good to see both them take a downward slide. Soon it will be a question of survival for most of us that want to try to live here. We are heading for a great big Maritime Union waterloo.
