A fire in Canavoy Wednesday has left a family homeless.
The East River fire department received the call just before 11 a.m. for a fire on the Canavoy Road.
On arrival it found the two-storey home unoccupied but fully engulfed in flames in the upper level on the back and right sides, said fire chief Rod MacDonald.
Assisting at the scene were the St. Peter's, Morell, North Shore and Mount Stewart fire departments.
"There were no injuries to firefighters and nobody was home at the time of the fire," said MacDonald.
"It's a write off," he said of the building. "The winds and the cold weather played a rough part on trying to fight the fire."
Firefighters spent most the daylight hours at the scene.
The department has no word on the family that owns the home, said MacDonald.
The fire is being investigated by the office of the provincial fire marshal.
