A 33-year-old Souris man is facing charges for assault with a weapon after a fight broke out at the Main Street Mall in Souris this morning.

Kings District RCMP arrived at the mall to a fight in progress between two local men. One of the men sprayed the other "with an irritant believed to be bear spray," a news release from RCMP states.

RCMP spent the morning taking statements from witnesses and investigating the matter before arresting one of the men for assault with a weapon.

To make the generalization that Souris is a town over run by crime and drugs is unfair.Yes some people do drugs, some people drink, and there are dishonest people..however that seems to be a trend no matter where you go in this world, and just because there are not a lot of employment opportunities here doesn't mean the whole town is on a crime spree..on the contrary, there are some hardworking decent folks left . It's sad that a few people have given Souris a bad reputation, but I feel it's these same individuals who have gotten away with too much for far too long, I think it's time for Souris to clean up the trash around here..(EX:well known convicted drug dealers who continually cause trouble)

Funny how the eastern towns are now flooded with pills and meth . I quess some people are even being told they can't wear " Sons of anarchy " shirts or jackets in Montaque or Murray river . It makes you think that their is a new crew in charge of that type of trade .

I believe that is a sweeping generalization that is a reflection of the narrow-mindedness of the person making it. There are more places than Souris that are dealing with drug problems.

over run by drugs?? Take a look around, it is no different than any other small community! As for a safe community , you must be much older than I, How many murders last year, and the previous years to which there was a violent crime?

For the Bedwarmer, it is still a safe and lovely little town. I love going back. You are going to get this kind of craziness everywhere and worse in cities. It is just not much happens there so things like this are going to hit the news. There is problems I am sure in every corner of the Island and every province is Canada. I agree some people of so narrow-minded!!!!!!!!!

If this took place inside the mall, there should be additional charges. Causing disturbance for one. I know people who got charged with that for swearing at each other.
