Islanders are starting the year 2013 by paying more for gas and oil.

Pricing adjustments approved by the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission saw gasoline prices increase by 5 cents per litre (cpl) and furnace and stove oil by 3 cpl.

Including adjustments for taxes, pump prices for regular unleaded gasoline at self-serve outlets will now range from 119.9 cpl to 121 cpl.

The maximum price for furnace oil will now amount to 106.3 cpl plus GST.

Diesel prices have also increased by 3 cpl.

Propane prices decreased by 2.6 cpl for Superior Propane, by 3.8 cpl for Irving Energy Distribution and Marketing. There was no change in propane price for Kenmac Energy Inc.

The adjustments became effective as soon as the new year rolled in at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1.

The next scheduled price adjustment will be on January 15, 2013.

Like I have always said, "Alberta Oil Please"! The price per litre is less than 0.95 cents in Alberta. The provincial governments in Atlantic Canada are keeping the price per litre high to get that extra tax grab and it seems no one in Atlantic Canada cares.

The poor will continue to give to rich here
    - January 2, 2013 at 10:37:38

Nothing changes here only for the worse. Wait until HST comes in and we go to pumps. The HST is going directly to the rich to pay for their pensions after being overpaid in their jobs for years-their over paid salaries that the taxpayers had to pay-...and HST pay for all those projects that need money for those who are conneccted to those with power and all other ways millions of dollars have been given to the richand connected, andor corrupt on the island. The amt of money that the Island has received to help all Islanders from feds has been in millions in each year- too bad none of it was used for the hard working islanders or out of work islanders having to leave just to find a job. Gas prices and everything else will continue to sky rocket and the rich and corrupt (a growing population due to pnp, corruption, favors, 6 digit salaries, over paid friends, etc) will just continue to ignore those who are being financially hurt and paying for the rich - those in power don't care because the majority working no voice- typical in an oppressive society

    EXPECT NOTHING
    - January 2, 2013 at 09:48:13

I expect nothing less from IRAC except higher prices as they mean higher taxes for this excuse the expresssion GOVERNMENT Taxes on gasoline are at present FET (Federal Excise Tax) 10 cents per litre PFT (Provincial Fuel Tax) 15.8 cents per litre GST (Government Sales Tax) 5 per cent ( 14 per cent after HST Implemented) Basically whatthis means is that after the HST you will not only be paying 2 taxes per litre but also 14 per cent additional tax on your purchase plus taxed on the other two taxes. PEI Land of the taxes

Maybe one of the reason's for gas going up and staying up is because the people who work on the IRAC broad have big pay check's. Maybe $ 100,000 and it has to come from somewhere.

    Happy Newyear
    - January 2, 2013 at 02:01:45

How about making a new years resolution to find the good in things instead of always finding the bad? Gas prices in Iceland or Europe make ours a bargain. Be happy you live on PEI. There are so many other places where you could live that don't hold a candle to PEI. Still not happy? What a great chance for you to move out west where you can enjoy your cheaper gas, groceries and cars in your $2,500 a month apartment and where you can park your car for just $30/day. With oil at $92.50 a barrel today versus $84-85 two weeks ago, it was very predicatable that prices would go up Jan 1st! None of us like it but I filled all my vehicles up Dec 31st in expectation of this.

The reason its going down there is because they(Obama and the boys)know they have a sure supply from western Canada. And don't think that if we tried to cut this supply off that they wouldn't turn their (liberating)guns due north to get the oil they want! It is only the fact that Harper plays the "girl part"everytime he crawls in bed with The Prezz that we haven't been bombed yet.

I'm on automatic fill for my heating oil and the oil companies know in advance whether prices are going up or down - they adjust my end of month/beginning of next month delivery accordingly. The whole IRAC thing is a sham and a scam.

Wait until the HST is forced upon us! The price of gas will go up quite a bit. And after a year or two, the HST exemption on heating oil will be removed, and the price to heat homes will soar as well. PEI will not have a happy new year in 2013. So when you are having a tough time paying your bills, thank your local farmers, tourism operators, and businesses. They lobbied hard for the HST to come in.
