Kate Middleton isn’t the only Kate expecting a baby in 2013.

Premier Robert Ghiz confirmed on Tuesday that he and his wife, Kate Ellis Ghiz, are expecting their third child.

Ellis Ghiz’s due date is in late June.

“We’re excited,” Ghiz told The Guardian.

On Monday, the world learned the Duchess of Cambridge — the former Kate Middleton — is pregnant.

The first child of Prince William and his wife, Kate, will be born king or queen in waiting, under changes to the succession rules designed to overturn centuries of tradition which would allow a younger brother to leapfrog ahead of a first-born princess as heir to the throne.

The Duchess’ due date is not known, but it is expected to be in late June or early July.

Ghiz and his wife, Kate, had the opportunity to spend some time with William and Kate while they were in Prince Edward Island in the summer of 2011.

Both couples took part in ceremonies at Province House, they both took part in dragon boat races at Dalvay, along P.E.I.’s north shore, and the couples had the chance to dine together.

Ghiz said the issue of having children came up during their discussions.

“We talked to them about having kids,” said Ghiz.

“We encouraged them . . . We told them to enjoy things along the way. We wish them the best.”

This will be the Ghiz family’s third child.

They now have two daughters — Julia is 3 years old and Emma is 1 years old.

Ghiz admitted it is a challenge balancing the demands of being premier with a young family. His wife, meanwhile, balances family life with her job as an emergency room physician.

“I’m probably not as good of a retail politician as I used to be,” he said.

“When I first got into politics, I was on the go seven days a week, seven nights a week. Now I try to be home most nights to put the kids to bed, when I can.”

When I served in the Canadian Forces infantry my regiment (3 RCR) formed an honour guard for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh during a royal visit to Ottawa. We were admonished by federal protocol officers as well as palace officials that should either individual speak with us (we were to only respond if spoken to), we were to not repeat what was discussed. I had the privilege of having a brief chat with Her Majesty but I have never, nor will I ever, reveal what that discussion involved. Mr. Ghiz had likely received the same briefing during the 2011 royal visit. I am surprised that he would be revealing details of any conversations held with the future King and Queen and am disappointed in him for doing so.

To formerislander>>> We are not HILLBILLIES!! We are fed up with him dictating the isalnd and making foolish decisions!! I am glad he is able to afford to have a child EVERY year because most of us hard working islanders cant hardly afford to feed our children because of his lack of morals and good judgement when it comes to job cuts, HST, ei cuts!! And as far as you being a "former " islander>>> I hope it stays that way!! I for one am a hardworking, honest, respectful man that is hardly able to pay for my own children because of all these foolish decisions by Mr Ghiz

Just means there will be more tax money that will find its way into a bank account of Robert Ghiz or his wife!!! Gotta fatten up those bank account since there is another baby to put through university!! Just what we need...another silver spoon baby to grow up and run for Premier. I guess it won't matter....Ghiz will see that PEI doesn't exist pretty soon anyways!!

Now this story is so inspiring my imagination is running wild. Imagine now, with a little co-ordination, these two babies, the Royal and the semi Royal, were to be born on the same day. Would Islanders be so impressed that they elected Mr.Ghiz as our dictator for life?

Wow-there sure are a lot of negative people commenting here. How about congrats to the happy news? And just for the record being an Emergency room physician is a very demanding and time consuming job, it takes a toll both physically and mentally, so hats off to Kate! (both Kate's)

I for one consider it tasteless to 'advertise' the private lives of politicians, I hope the Guardian asked persmission before printing this 'sugar plum'. On the other hand, I do hope that this was not a pressrelease from the Premier's office ---- either way, it should not be a front page news story, --- it is a private matter, keep it that way---

Mr Ghiz. because of all of your Government layoffs I am unable to find work in the field that I worked so hard in achieving two degrees for in order to come back to work in PEI. Who do I send my resume to for the nanny you will be hiring position? I bet she will be paid well right? Sadly, like MANY OTHER ISLANDER'S I keep inching closer and closer to moving outwest!!!!!

Wow, isn't that awesome. Kate and Kate, who would have thought that. Now the families can have play dates, grow up together, tell stories, have a chuckle at the irony of both them being pregnant around the same time. I can't wait more of these boring stories in The Guardian. How about something important, like maybe people going hungry in the streets of Charlottetown, the homeless, the unemployed, the fact that his government to allow this to happen while his ministers are getting new cars from our hard earned money. I think the Premier needs a reality check.

CBC choses to commission CRA on a Plan B poll that shows a 26 point gap of project opponents over project supporters. 45 to 19. The Guardian does not have any CRA scoop polls. Instead we have this story suggesting complicty with shallow public relations politics intended to distract people from the issues, the poor performance of the government, and the general chaos of governance on PEI today. Whenever the Royals are wheeled out into a story the intention is to have readers pay attention to things that have nothing to do with their real lives. Like Plan B, the HST, the debt, PNP, the extreme arrogance of the Premeir and his Cabinet Ministers, etc.

I was always taught when one announces they are expecting, you should not mention someone elses baby announcement. Announcing a third child and attempting to steal the thunder of a soon to be new mom, is in poor taste.

Depends. Are you the premier or otherwise known Island-wide? If not, the circle of interested persons will probably be much smaller for you.
