Police in St. Lucia have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of Islander Colin Peter.

Clinton Reynolds of St Lucia's news channel DBS TV said the suspect did not resist arrest and has apparently confessed to the crime.

Peter, a resident of Guernsey Cove, died from injuries he sustained when he and his wife were attacked while walking on the beach in Saint Lucia last week.

The suspect’s name will not be released until he’s formally charged.

“As soon as he’s charged, then all the details of what has transpired so far will be released including the name of that suspect,” said Reynolds in a media interview.

“We expect that charge to be placed on the individual sometime early this week.”

Police had been searching for the suspect for several days and even sent a press release to St. Lucia media asking for him to turn himself in.

However, no reason was given.

“One could have put one and one together to determine or assume he was the one in connection with the crime.”

The suspect was arrested with Peter’s camera in possession, which still had pictures he had taken on it.

Glad they caught the murderer. Lucky for him he was arrested. Quite often those who threaten the Tourist dollars in the Islands may find themselves swimming alone far out at sea I've heard. Hopefully this will provide some closure down the road for the victims and the Guardian will keep us posted as the case develops. Good work by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.
