An entry from the Winsloe United Church has been named the “Best Overall” float from the 14th annual Charlottetown Christmas parade Saturday.

Thousands braved through on-and-off rain showers during the parade to see Santa Claus make his guest appearance.

The parade saw some attendants grow concerned when two fire engines sped through the corner of Grafton Street and University Avenue, which was part of the route. However, the call turned out to be a false alarm.

Other than the alarm, the parade was filled with much Christmas cheer, sparkling lights and holiday music.

Other winning entries in the parade were:

Best School Float - Ecole Francois Buote

Top Choir/Band - 148 Army Cadets

Best First Time Entry - Town of Cornwall

Best Church Entry - Charlottetown Bible Chapel

Most Original Float - Mary and Joseph

Holiday Spirit Award - Home Depot

Best Fire Entry - North Pole Christmas Present Fire Engine

Best Costume – Christmas Tree – Ocean 100

Best Christmas Theme Float - Parkdale Sherwood Lions Club

Crowd’s Choice - PEI Rocket Hockey Club

So thankful that Charlottetown has a "Christmas Parade", and not just a "Santa Parade ". Loved the Mary and Joseph and the donkey with the star. Christ came into the world in such a simple way. Loved the huge Bible with the verses explaining why Christ did come... because of His great love for us He wants us to realize we can not save ourselves from eternal death, but need to accept the Savior, His only Son... God incarnate.

Congratulations to Winsloe United Church for winning the best float; however, it would have been nice to see a picture of it!!!!!! I live in Ontario but I was born in Winsloe so was especially thrilled that their entry won. I was very disappointed to see all the other floats but not the winner's.

What Child is this? for Whom all this wonderful fuss, and what "Holiday" is this for which one goes more than broke? May I whisper a stifled MERRY CHRISTmas to all, ALL!
