Power went out over parts of east-end Charlottetown about 10 p.m. Tuesday and fire department crews began responding to reports of power transformers exploding in some areas of the city.

Kim Griffin of Maritime Electric reports that some 1,800 customers were without power. Crews found a tree branch had fallen on lines in the area of Birchwood school off Longworth Avenue.

Maritime Electric had the power fully restored by 10:45.

I saw a big blue flash as well, followed by a very strange sound. Power flickered, but didn't go out.
