Six summary offence tickets were handed out during a joint checkpoint Saturday afternoon on Highway 2 in Scotchfort conducted by the Kings and Queens RCMP.

In addition to the tickets, RCMP issued seven warnings, a seven-day suspension and charged one person with impaired driving.

“Police are reminding the public not to drink and drive and a reminder that your vehicle registration expired every year on your birthday and not at the end of the month that you are born in,” says a news release.

More checkpoints please and not just on the Hillsboro Bridge. We need more on the country roads and especially where they are least expected.People are driving without a liscense ,regristration and insurance, seatbelts and texting .Then there are those who are impaired .I firmly believe these will save lives.

Again we see there are abody of Islanders who think that they can drink and drive, and violate the traffic laws at anytime......the drinking and driving is areflection of long term addiction issues that run in families here and that many family members enable them to continue by failing to report them to the police...that call 95% of the time saves their lives or somebody else's..........Change will not come unless the public speaks up......just talk to the family of a victim..and out yourselves in THEIR shoes...................
