Time to roll out.

The P.E.I. Wagon Train will clickitty click its way out of the Dundas fairgrounds Saturday at 11 a.m.

Close to 75 horses and roughly 10 wagons will travel in a procession that stretches a good quarter-mile on a trip back in time.

"It's like a recreation of an old wagon train that would be going from one town to another,'' said Angie MacDonald.

MacDonald of Ebenezer will serve as sheriff for the ride, working her way up and down the wagon train atop her pinto mare named Chiquita to help ensure the procession moves smoothly.

MacDonald hopes many people will line the route to watch, cheer and wave as the wagon train gallops along Little River Road onto Rte. 310, then onto Pine Grove Road, before turning back on Little River Road returning to the fair grounds.

The procession of buggies, wagons and carts as well as draft horses and smaller breeds like Halfingers should take about 3 1/2 hours to complete the trek.

MacDonald, who has ridden in about six wagon trains, says proper trail etiquette will be enforced. But the main focus, she stresses, is on participants having a fun outing. Singing, for instance, is encouraged.

"If you want to do a little Gene Autry or Roy Rogers, that is fine,'' she said.

"I just hope that everybody has a good time.''

Last year marked a rejuvenation of the event that was sidelined for six years due to difficulty securing insurance.

MacDonald would like to see the wagon train once again roll into an annual event. Registration is closed for Saturday's ride.
