After six years, Shelley Ward is stepping down as president of the P.E.I. Union of Public Sector Employees.
In a message to the membership posted on the union's website last week, Ward said she stepped down to take a job as UPSE's senior staffing and labour relations officer.
"I am excited to start a new path in my life by helping the union deliver valuable services to our membership," she said.
Ward started in her new position as of June 28.
In her message, Ward said the union had to meet significant challenges in troubling times, but with strong leadership and the membership's solidarity the union has prevailed.
"As I step down as president, it is comforting to know that the union is prepared to grow confidently into the future," she said.

Well said Old Lady! Many people have no idea what unions have done to improve working conditions and wages for workers, whether they are in a union or not. It would be a very sad day if we went back to the old ways before unions existed.
